Cabot Edewaard’s family has a deeply-rooted history in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Five generations of the Cabot family have played a significant role in the development of the region. The group is named after Frederick Mortimer Cabot II, a general contractor who moved to Jupiter, Florida in 1893. Shortly after his arrival, he purchased land surrounding the Jupiter railroad station and began building streets and roads. He was a founding father of the city of Jupiter, and was instrumental in its development. F.M. “Fred” Cabot III served as a telegraph operator and a fish and game officer (the law enforcement of the region in those “frontier” days), and he also owned a grocery store on the beach near Jupiter inlet. Known for his honesty and integrity, infamous bandits turned themselves in to Fred Cabot because they knew that he could be trusted to take them to the authorities alive. Cabot Edewaard’s grandfather, F.M. “Ted” Cabot IV, held the post of clerk of the circuit court and circuit court judge for Broward nty. He earned an LLB from the first graduating class from the University of Miami Law School. In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson appointed Ted Cabot as the first federal court judge to preside over Broward County. He was also the first state senator to ever represent Broward County. His motto in life was “The person who has more should be the person who gives more.”
